French charity worker kidnapped in Central Africa released

BANGUI, CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC (BNO NEWS) -- A French charity worker who was abducted earlier this week in the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR) has been released, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said in a statement on Friday, providing few details.

"Our compatriot Claudia Priest, who was kidnapped earlier this week in the Central African Republic, is finally free," the minister said in a statement released by the foreign ministry. "I join in the joy of her relatives. It's a huge relief for all those who have worked towards this happy ending."

Fabius said the Archbishop of Bangui helped secure Priest's release, but no further details were provided. "I thank, in particular, the Central African government and religious leaders, including the Archbishop of Bangui who actively contributed to her release," the foreign minister said.
