News summary for Saturday, June 3, 2017

A quick look at the most important news of the last 24 hours:

  • At least 6 people have been killed and up to 30 others are injured after suspected terrorists ran over pedestrians on the London Bridge before stabbing people in nearby bars, officials say. Three suspects wearing fake explosive belts were shot dead by police. The attack has been declared a terrorist incident though there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

  • Saturday's attack comes less than 2 weeks after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the Manchester Arena, killing 22 people after a concert by singer Ariana Grande. A benefit concert featuring Ariana Grande and other celebrities will take place on Sunday evening. The attack also comes just days before the UK's general election, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.

  • More than 600 people have been injured after panic erupted among football fans who were watching the Champions League final at a square in the Italian city of Turin. It may have been caused by a firecracker. The match in Wales was won by Real Madrid, becoming Europe's champions for a record 12th time.

  • Dozens of civilians have been shot dead while trying to flee an ISIS-held neighborhood in the Iraqi city of Mosul. The humanitarian group FBR said at least 50 people had been killed and 30 others are injured, though survivors said dozens more had been shot. The group was able to rescue a wounded man and a little girl who was hiding underneath her dead mother's hijab. Photos from the scene showed dozens of dead bodies.

  • The gunman who set fires inside a casino in Manila on Friday has been identified as a 43-year-old gambling addict who was $80,000 in debt. The Filipino man - who tried to steal chips worth millions of dollars - previously worked for the Finance Department but had no links to terrorism, despite a claim from ISIS. Smoke from the fires killed 37 people and the suspect later committed suicide inside one of the hotel rooms at the resort.
