Reports: ISIS militants burn 45 people to death in western Iraq

Islamic State (ISIS) militants in western Iraq have burned to death as many as 45 people after they had been accused of working with Iraqi security forces, according to reports published on Tuesday. Few details about the killings were immediately available.

The killings are believed to have happened near the town of al-Baghdadi in western Anbar province, northwest of Baghdad. A brief report from the Deutsche Presse-Agentur cited residents as saying that at least 30 people had been burned to death, but local police chief Colonel Qasim al-Obeidi told the BBC that at least 45 people had been killed.

Obeidi, who pleaded for help from the Iraqi government and the international community, said a compound housing the families of security personnel and local officials was now under attack, the BBC reported.

The area of al-Baghdadi has largely fallen to the Islamic State after fierce fighting over the past week.
