Chelsea suspends 3 football fans after Paris metro incident

British football club Chelsea has "suspended" three of its fans after a video was posted online that showed Chelsea fans shouting they are racists as they prevented a black man from boarding a Paris metro train, the club announced on Thursday.

"Chelsea Football Club is suspending three people from Stamford Bridge as a result of investigations into the incident on the Paris Metro on Tuesday evening," Chelsea said in a statement. "If it is deemed there is sufficient evidence of their involvement in the incident, the club will issue banning orders for life."

The incident occurred earlier this week at the Richelieu-Drouot station in Paris, according to The Guardian, which published the 57-second video on its website. In the video, the Chelsea fans are heard shouting: "We're racist. We're racist and that's the way we like it. We like it, we love it."

The publication of the video prompted outrage and an investigation by both French authorities and the football club itself.

"We have received substantial information to date following our witness appeal and we are grateful to the many Chelsea supporters who have provided information so far," the club's statement added. "Our investigations are on-going and we would request any further information is sent to customer.services@chelseafc.com."
