Kerry to meet Iran’s FM on Sunday as part of nuclear negotiations

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to the Swiss city of Geneva on Sunday to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as part of ongoing negotiations over Tehran's disputed nuclear program, the U.S. State Department said on Thursday.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Kerry will also travel to London on Saturday to meet with British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond to discuss bilateral and global issues. Kerry will then travel to Geneva the next day to meet with Zarif "as part of the ongoing nuclear negotiations," the spokeswoman said.

Iran and the 5+1 group, which includes the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany, have been negotiating over the past few years over Tehran's nuclear program. The Iranian government has repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is for the peaceful purpose of providing energy, but many countries contend that Iran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
