Five people were killed Monday when a hangar under construction collapsed at an airport on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, emergency officials said. Several others were injured.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. local time when a hangar at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, which serves the city of Makassar, collapsed, trapping nine construction workers, the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) said.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene just after 10 a.m. and worked for about an hour to retrieve all nine victims. Three people - ages 28, 37 and 38 - were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others died later, putting the death toll at five.

Three others were taken to hospital, but their conditions were not immediately known.
