[UPDATE] HBO launches streaming service ‘HBO Now,’ partners with Apple for launch

Premium cable and satellite network HBO on Monday announced a standalone streaming service called “HBO Now,” making its entire television and movie catalog available to subscribers, with Apple TV being the exclusive launch partner.

“We are thrilled to be here this morning to announce our standalone streaming service, HBO Now, and we couldn’t be prouder that Apple is our exclusive partner at launch,” HBO CEO Richard Plepler said at an Apple event in San Francisco. “When you subscribe to HBO Now, you will have access to all our acclaimed, original programming. Past, present and future.”

The service will start on April 1 and will be available for $14.99 a month. For a limited time, the first month is free if subscribers register on their Apple TV, iPad, or iPhone devices, Plepler said.
