[UPDATE] Cuba rejects ‘interventionist’ U.S. declaration, reiterates ‘full support’ to Venezuela

The Cuban government on Tuesday slammed an executive order from U.S. President Barack Obama against Venezuela as "interventionist" and declared its "full support" for the government of President Nicolás Maduro.

"How is Venezuela a threat to the United States? Thousands of miles away, without strategic arms and without using resources or staff to plot against American constitutional order, the statement sounds not very credible," the government said in a statement, adding that Monday's order shows "once again the interventionist nature" of the United States.

The statement added: "The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Cuba again reiterates its full support and that of our people to the Bolivarian Revolution, the legitimate government of President Nicolás Maduro, and the heroic brotherly nation of Venezuela. Nobody has the right to intervene in the internal affairs of a foreign state or to declare, without foundation, someone as a threat to its national security."
