At least 41 people were killed Wednesday and 22 others were injured when a passenger bus and a truck collided head-on on a road in southwestern Tanzania, state-run television reported.

The accident, the country's worst in years, happened on a busy road in the southwestern region of Iringa, according to the state-run Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC). It said the cause of the crash was believed to be the result of speeding.

Photos from the scene showed passengers crushed to death under the weight of the truck's container, which was carrying timber.
