U.S. wrestling legend Roddy Piper dies unexpectedly

Wrestling legend 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper has unexpectedly died in California, his family has confirmed. He was just 61 years old.

"Our family is saddened by the sudden passing of our father and beloved husband, Roderick Toombs aka Rowdy Roddy Piper," Piper's family said in a brief statement. TMZ reported that Piper died from cardiac arrest while sleeping at his home in Hollywood, hours before he was scheduled to do a podcast interview with Earl Skakel.

WWE star Kevin Owens expressed his shock at Piper's sudden death. "One of the most mesmerizing and inspiring people I ever met in wrestling," he said on Twitter.
