China expels senior provincial official over corruption

A senior provincial official of China's ruling Communist Party has been expelled after he was found to have abused his position and accepted bribes.

Ling Zhengce, the vice chairman of the Shanxi provincial committee of the Political Consultative Conference, was expelled from the party and public office after an investigation into allegations of corruption, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

According to a brief report, citing the Communist Party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Ling was found to have accepted bribes and exploited his position to help his family members in business dealings and sought profits for others through the promotion of officials and business operations.
