4 British tourists among dead in Quebec plane crash

Four Britons were among six people killed Sunday when a small plane crashed during a sightseeing trip in Canada, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said on Tuesday.

"This terrible incident has taken the lives of all on board, including four British nationals. My thoughts and sympathy are with their family and friends at this difficult time," Hammond said in a brief statement. "Our High Commission in Ottawa is in close contact with the Canadian authorities and we are providing consular assistance to the relatives of those who were killed."

Sunday's accident, which happened in a rugged and heavily wooded area near Tadoussac in Quebec, also claimed the lives of 28-year-old French tourist Emilie Delaitre and Canadian pilot Romain Desrosiers.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, but weather is not thought to have been a factor.
