Gunmen dressed as Afghan soldiers kill 2 NATO service members

Two coalition service members were killed early Wednesday and three others were wounded when two gunmen dressed as Afghan security forces opened fire on their vehicle, the NATO-led Resolute Support force said in a brief statement.

The attack happened at an Afghan military compound in Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, though the exact location of the incident was not released. "Resolute Support servicemembers returned fire and killed the shooters," the statement said. "Afghan and Resolute Support officials are reviewing the incident and further information will be released as available and appropriate."

Colonel Brian Tribus, a spokesman for the force, confirmed three other service members were injured in the attack. "We are not releasing any further details about the wounded at this time," he said.

The nationalities of the service members were not immediately released.
