Myanmar general elections to take place as scheduled on November 8

Myanmar’s election commission has that the country's general elections will take place as scheduled on November 8 despite concerns over flooding.

State television announced the decision on Tuesday, according to the Reuters news agency. Myanmar’s election commission had earlier met with major political parties to discuss the possible postponement of the election due to flooding, Reuters reported.

The November 8 elections will see elections in all constituencies for the country’s parliament, the Assembly of the Union. Htay Oo is the leader of the governing Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), which faces the National League for Democracy (NLD) headed by Aung San Suu Kyi.
