Ex-U.S. President Carter ‘responding well’ to treatment, no signs of new malignancy

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is responding well to treatment for spots of melanoma on his brain and there is no evidence of new malignancy, aides say.

“President Carter has received good news from his Winship Cancer Institute doctors,” Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said. “They tell him that recent tests have shown there is no evidence of new malignancy, and his original problem is responding well to treatment.”

Congileo added that further tests will continue.

Carter announced in mid-August that he had been diagnosed with cancer after a liver surgery.
