‘No known credible threat’ of a Paris-type attack on U.S. soil, FBI says

U.S. officials say they are not aware of any credible intelligence to suggest a terror attack similar to the one that rocked Paris last week is being plotted on U.S. soil, FBI Director James Comey said on Thursday.

"We are not aware of any credible threat here of a Paris-type attack and we have seen no connection at all between the Paris attackers and the United States,” Comey said at a news conference.

Comey, however, urged Americans to remain vigilant and added that U.S. authorities are following dozens of people who are considered a high risk for wanting to carry out a Paris-inspired attack in the United States.

U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, sitting next to Comey, said the Justice Department is working aggressively around the clock to uncover and disrupt any plots aimed at the United States and stressed that all threats are being taken seriously.

“We will not let our actions be overtaken by fear. We will not allow merchants of violence to rob us of our most precious ideals. Our values are not secondary considerations in the fight against terror, they are essential to the work that we do and they are essential to the nation that we protect. They are also the reason we are a target. And they are what terrorist want most to seek to have us abandon,” Lynch said.

The comments came just days after the Islamic State group released videos threatening violence against the west, specifically in the nation’s capital and in New York City.

Responding to the videos, the NYPD said they have received no credible threats and like many law enforcement agencies across the country, they too have added extra security measures as a precaution.
