‘The Shield’ actor Michael Jace convicted in wife’s murder

Actor Michael Jace, who is best remembered for his role as a police officer on the FX television series "The Shield", has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2014 shooting death of his wife, prosecutors say.

Jace, 53, admitted to shooting his wife April during an argument at their California home in May 2014, but he claimed that he had only intended to wound her. As such, his defense lawyer argued for a manslaughter conviction.

On Tuesday, a Los Angeles jury returned a guilty verdict for second-degree murder, which is a lesser charge than the first-degree murder conviction that had been sought by prosecutors, who argued that April's murder was premeditated over allegations that she was having an affair.

The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. on May 14, 2014, when shots rang out at a residence in south Los Angeles. The actor himself called 911 to report that his wife had been shot, but neighbors who heard the gunfire also called police.

Two children who were also in the home at the time of the shooting were not injured.

Jace is best known for playing the role of LAPD Officer Julien Lowe on the acclaimed television series "The Shield," which aired on TV channel FX between March 2002 and November 2008. The series portrays the story of a Los Angeles police precinct where cops cross the line between good and bad every day.
