Actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard settle divorce

Actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard settled their divorce on Tuesday, and the actress dropped a restraining order that she requested over allegations of domestic violence, saying in a joint statement that neither of them intended to cause harm.

Depp, 53, and Heard, 30, reached the divorce settlement one day before they were scheduled to appear at a hearing. According to entertainment news website TMZ, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star has agreed to pay his former wife a $7 million settlement.

Heard filed for divorce in May 2016 after 15 months of marriage and two days later obtained a restraining order against Depp, accusing him of domestic violence after he allegedly hurled a phone at her face, leaving her bruised.

Depp was ordered by a judge not to have any contact with Heard and to stay 100 yards away from her. He continuously denied any accusations of abuse and Los Angeles police officers who responded to a call about the incident said they found no evidence of a crime.

The couple released a joint statement about their relationship, saying that they will be handling their divorce proceedings privately.

“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” the pair said in the statement. “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.”

The statement added: “Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity."

The pair met on set of “The Rum Diary” in 2011 and wed in Los Angeles in 2015.
