Oscar-Winning Writer Bobby Moresco Pens Irish Gang Drama for CuffLink Productions

May 9, 2017 - (Newswire)

Bobby Moresco, co-writer of the Oscar-winning film Crash, has been set by CuffLink Productions to write a script based on the history of Irish criminal dominance in Hell's Kitchen. The story culminates with the rise and fall of the Westies gang and the end of a century of violence on the West Side of New York City.

At a 1987 press conference announcing the indictment of the gang members, US Attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani noted that the Westies were "… one of the most savage organizations in the long history of New York gangs."

Growing up in Hell's Kitchen gives Moresco a unique perspective of the neighborhood history and the telling of this story.

"This is a story I've been wanting to tell for a very long time, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to tell it now," says Moresco.

Moresco just wrapped writing and directing the film Bent in Italy for AMBI Entertainment. The film stars Karl Urban, Sofia Vergara, Grace Byers, and Andy Garcia. He has recently completed writing Lamborghini, which Mike Radford will direct this September. He's also been collaborating with William Friedkin on the television versions of To Live and Die in L.A. and Killer Joe.

For CuffLink Productions, set to produce the film is Ed Cuffe and Tierney Boorboor. Michael Reuten and Joseph Isgro (Hoffa) are executive producing. Michael Mandaville (Taken I, Taken II, Taken III) will be line producing.

Producer Ed Cuffe notes, "I've always been fascinated by the history of Irish gang violence in New York. Being the son of Irish immigrants right off the boat, I love the idea of making this based-on-true-events film. CuffLink is excited to be working with Bobby and looks forward to bringing his compelling epic story to life on the big screen."
