The Common Ground Foundation & Gardeneers Open Two New School Gardens In Chicago

May 16, 2017 - (Newswire)

WHAT: The Common Ground Foundation and the non-for-profit organization Gardeneers, Chicago's only organization dedicated to providing full-service school garden support, joined forces to create two new sustainable gardens for South side schools. With investment from The Common Ground Foundation, the USDA, and weekly hands-on education from the Gardeneers, Ira Aldridge Elementary School and KIPP Bloom College Prep both debuted new sustainable educational gardens last week.

WHY: Gardeneers implements school garden programs at 25 schools throughout Chicago. Gardeneers focuses on partnering with schools in low income, food desert communities where residents do not have access to fresh, healthy food. Together with communities, the mission of Gardeneers is to empower students to connect with healthy food through experiential, garden-based learning. The vision of Gardeneers is that all children, regardless of race, class, or geography, will understand the significance of healthy food in the betterment of their lives.

The values and mission of Gardeneers and the Common Ground Foundation are incredibly synergistic and like-minded. Both seek to grow nourished futures and empower the leaders of tomorrow. A partnership between the Common Ground Foundation is laying the groundwork to spread the profound and multifaceted impacts of school gardens to more underserved communities in Chicago, particularly on the South side.

HOW: Support future leaders in Chicago's most needed communities. Donations are always welcome to Gardeneers 3414 W. Roosevelt, 60624. All charitable donations are tax exempt. www.gardeneers.org
