The Line Releases First Web Exclusive Featuring Randi Weingarten and Tom Kane

Jun 5, 2017 - (Newswire)

- The Line, a publication of the Frontline Research and Learning institute dedicated to civil discourse in education, has released its first web exclusive presenting different perspectives on the ESSA Accountability Guidelines Rollback. Web exclusive content will be available on a monthly basis and offers readers a chance to comment and interact with the content.

The first article features opposing views from Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and Thomas Kane, Walter H. Gale professor of education and economics at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

"I think there is more common ground among parents, educators, local communities, school superintendents and many state chiefs than there is in Washington, D.C. People around the country are doubling down on trying to make ESSA work," said Weingarten when asked about finding common ground on the issue.

In response to the same question Kane shared, "I am worried about whether states and districts are prepared to lead or whether they are going to try to return to the status quo before Race to the Top and No Child Left Behind. Will states and districts pay as much attention to the achievement gap for disadvantaged youth? Will states and districts take on difficult issues such as ensuring that disadvantaged youth have effective, experienced teachers?"

Monthly web exclusive content is available only at TheLineK12.com.
