Gunmen attack Iran’s parliament, Khomeini’s shrine

As many as three gunmen have opened fire inside Iran's parliament building, killing at least one person and injuring up to 7 others, local media report. A second shooting and a suicide bombing have been reported at the shrine of Ayatollah Khomeini.

The incidents began at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday when up to three men with automatic weapons opened fire at the parliament building. At least one guard is believed to have been killed and up to 7 others are injured. Heavy bursts of gunfire could be heard in audio from the building.

Roads around the parliament building were closed and special forces entered the compound, even though lawmakers who were in session continued working. There were conflicting reports about the status of the attackers.

A short time later, a second shooting was reported at the Mausoleum of Ruhollah Khomeini, which is located south of Tehran. The Mehr News Agency said at least 5 people had been shot at that location, though details remain limited. IRNA reports one of the attackers - a woman - has blown herself up.

It's unclear if either of the shootings are still ongoing, but there was no immediate word on who may be behind the simultaneous attacks. Iran's interior ministry will convene an emergency meeting soon, Iran's Press TV reported.
